About the Performers
An accomplished pianist of both classical and new music repertoire pianist Tiffany Lin takes on an unconventional approach when performing music on the piano. Her work has extended into the territory of prepared piano, toy piano, and the use of extended piano techniques. She embraces the music that explores the potential of sound on the piano, music to excite and push the boundaries of piano playing and compositions for the piano. She has recently recorded the complete John Cage Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano to be aired on KEXP, Sonarchy and has recently earned a Washington Artist Trust GAP Grant and a fellowship by the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
Motoko Honda is a classically trained pianist, focused on expanding her practice as a multimedia performer, studying contemporary and extended piano techniques, prepared piano, and improvisation. Her studies also include world music such as African, Indonesian, Indian and Electronic, Jazz and creative notation systems. Her compositions and performances are a combination of different cultural influences, acoustic and electronic devices, and are intended to affect the skin, organs, and minds of the listener instead of being heard as melodic or harmonic themes.
