When I’m at home I spend most of my time in my bed. In my bed I do homework, read, watch movies, sleep, play music, etc. For a place that I spend most my time, I felt clueless as to what were the causes of the sounds surrounding me. I know that most of the things that I heard in the 5 minutes that I observed either came from outside of my window, my 2 wild kittens being rambunctious, or from myself.
The Kitties:
- Played with a plastic bag in the kitchen
- Plastic sound kept stopping and going
- Plastic sound came closer. They must have been stuck in it and dragging it.
- Kitty runs towards me and around the corner into my room, then hits the door with his body because he was moving too fast.
- Paws scratch and dig into the carpet for a quick turn around.
- Undeterminable noises coming from the living room, kittens and mischief. They always get into trouble, bumping stuff around. I’m often to confused by the sounds they’re making that I have to actually get up and check on them.
- Sometimes when they run under my bed they hit something, sound like a hard thing hitting wood. It always bumps the bed. I have even gone so far as lying down and trying to figure out how they make this sound.
Outside:
- I live right by a busy street so I am used to vehicles driving very close by my window.
- What I found interesting about listening to the sounds this time was that the cars could be heard long after they passed my window. It’s like they’re leaving the sound of their memory. Maybe this noise is more apparent today because the road is wet, and the sound of the tires on the ground is louder.
- A tweeting bird marks the change of the seasons. I look forward to hearing more birds in my soundscape this summer.
Myself:
- When my fingers were typing it was hard to concentrate and hear anything else. Sometimes they’d stop to think and listen.
- The vertebrae in my neck make a slight cracking noise when I turned my head
- Big inhale, exhale- almost done with this homework
- I scratched the back of my neck. Skin and hair make very different noises.
