Maia-
I loved the vivid imagery that you use here. I feel like I am moving at the concert with you. It is fun to put yourself out of your confort zone and try new things sometimes. I love going to places where I dont know anybody and being someone different, like an alterego! It is through those experiences with pushing your limits that you figure out more of who you really are. I would encourage you to keep going to concerts and discovering more about yourself and your dancing.

What happened to the 3 paragraph blog man?! Just kidding, that was great! I have to be honest you are able to take in and analyze a lot more than I do when watching performances! Seeing this on Broadway last summer was great. I remember the old couple next to me left 25 minutes into the performance, which made my day because I was able to move 2 seats closer to center! Though I didn't think of this while watching it, the comment about them facing flat front when on paths of discovery is right on. The image of them all standing up tall and singing strongly is what I remember most from Spring Awakening.

I love Bumbershoot, and this past year it was especially great. I love being able to just sit on the grass with friends (I think I was next to you when Tyrone was on, yeah?) and listen to great music. Ever since hearing one of his songs on the TV show "One Tree Hill" I've been a fan. I agree that this experience was much more personal, aren't we're lucky!

Agreed. Andrew Bird rocks and is one of my favorite singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalists at this moment in time. (By the way...I wish I could whistle like him) I'd have to say my favorite album is "Armchair Apocrypha." I'm sad I missed it, looks awesome.
Why didn't you tell me this was happening! :(

Awesome! I love going to shows that it feels like the crowd is one. Everyone's love for the music, excitement, and energy radiate into the space and make the experience 10 times better. I'm glad you had such a great experience when you tried something new. I'll have to check them out since most of my family lives there and I visit multiple times a year!

I agree. Sarah and her music is beautiful.
I feel inspired to comment on her piece "For Joe." It was written in memory of Cornish Dance student Joe Sodd III. I seem emotionless when it comes to death, not because I don't care, but somehow I seem to deal with it differently. This song brought tears to my eyes, which never happens. The simple lyrics, with each line in the phrase starting the same
Verse 1: They say dreams..... x4
Verse 2: So you dance... x4
Verse 3: Gone.... x3
Verse 4: Gone.... x3
To hear those words repeated 3-4 times each followed by things that you think about or do everyday makes one think about how sad it is for someone to never be able to do things ever again, and how much it hurts to lose someone so special.
The last line that is repeated is "Gone, there will never be another Joe."

I agree that the repetition in the first piece never became boring. It seemed like every time a new couple came out of the stage right wings shuffling sideways I was surprised! Even the twentieth time it happened I was still excited to see more.

I really admire athleticism in dance. It gives dance a new definition....Dance doesn't always have to graceful and pretty.

Sounds like a very original concert! Very enjoyable. The connection of heritage in music is something I feel gets over looked and unappreciated. After reading your blog I thought to myself it has been so long since I have listen to something or someone who did not play with an 'american' style. But I soon corrected myself, for what I am currently listening to is not American at all! I think I forget sometimes to embrace and treasure all the individuality of music from other cultures.

Very interesting. haha
